In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.

Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective

Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!

Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.

Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to
frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

April Theme - Water!

Let's hope we don't have too much water in April, at least not from the sky!  It will be a busy month for all of us.

Since we live on an island, it should not be hard to come up with some pictures of water.  In addition to that, we can always try to think outside the box and come up with some creative water shots as well.   As always, it will be interesting to see the creative process.

Thanks again for your submissions in March for the "It's Biblical!" theme.  I think we all had fun with it.
Stay tuned for our list of themes for May.  Vote for the one you would like to participate in!

The Real Life!

I really wanted to end the month off with another one of my favorite scriptures.  I had to improvise just a little.

1 Timothy 6:19 - "safely treasuring up for themselves a fine foundation for the future, in order that they may get a firm hold on the real life."

The real (reel) life!

And while I was at it, I couldn't help but think of my good friend, Jim, and the famous fishing trip.

Matthew 4:19 - "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."

Life with Purpose

Psalms 127:1 - "Unless Jehovah himself builds the house, it is to no avail that its builders have worked hard on it."

If we work in harmony with our Creator's purpose, we will always be successful!

History Written in Advance

Prophecy is history written in advance.  Many look forward to the time when this prophecy becomes history:

John 5:28,29 - "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out..."

Bye, Bye, Birdie!

Noah sent out a dove two times after the flood.  Each time the dove returned.  Genesis 8:12 states what happened the third time:  "Then he sent out the dove, but it dd not come back again to him anymore."

Harvest Time!

Matthew 13:30 - "Let both grow together until the harvest; and in the harvest season I will tell the reapers, First collect the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them up, then go to gathering the wheat into my storehouse."

Take a Lesson from the Tulip!

Perhaps this is not a lily, but it reminded me of the scripture at Matthew 6:28,29 - "Also, on the matter of clothing, why are you anxious?  Take a lesson from the lilies of the field, how they are growing; they do not toil, nor do they spin; but I say to you not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these."

The Red!

A Father's Plea

Like waves that endlessly roll to shore, can be the righteousness of one who heeds Jehovah's commands.

Psalms 48:18 - "O if only you would actually pay attention to my commandments!  Then your peace would become just like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea."

The Righteous Man

Being straight and tall as well as fruitful, the palm tree was also a fitting symbol of the 'righteous man' 'planted in the courtyards of Jehovah.'

The righteous himself will blossom forth as a palm tree does;
As a cedar in Lebanon does, he will grow big.
Those who are planted in the house of Jehovah,
In the courtyards of our God, they will blossom forth.

Psalms 92:12,13

Something to ponder....What other "name" did Jericho have?  Can you name another city named for the Palm tree?

Hey! Who Made That?

Hebrews 3:4 - "Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God."

How Thankful We Can Be!

So far off from us he has put our transgressions."

The Rainbow Covenant

Genesis 9:13 - "My rainbow I do give in the cloud, and it must serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth."

Not Forgotten

Luke 12:6 - "Five sparrows sell for two coins of small value, do they not?  Yet not one of them goes forgotten before God."

Although this photo was not taken this month, (thankfully we have been snow free in March) when I was perusing my photos, this one immediately reminded me of the above scripture.

"For the days of a bush....."

Isaiah 65:22 - ".....For the days of a tree will the days of my people be,...."

Although this is just a bush, it reminded me of the above scripture.  Submitted by Kryptonite.

A Prophecy of Intrigue!

"Chop the tree down, and cut off it's boughs.
However, leave it's rootstock itself in the earth,
even with a banding of iron and copper..."

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words!

"Read God's Word The Holy Bible Daily"

Most of us can picture this picture without actually seeing the photo!  I think we need a rule!  No taking photos while driving!

"But his delight is in the law of Jehovah,
And in his law he reads in an undertone day and night."

Psalms 1:2

The Rock

The Rock, perfect is his activity,
For all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness, with whom there is no injustice,
Righteous and upright is he.

Deuteronomy 32:4

I always marveled at the giant rocks in Central Park.  It made me think of the above scripture.

The Eye in the Sky!

It is not the local traffic helicopter.  Job could clearly see Jehovah after contemplating his wonderful creation.  The picture below depicts a beautiful cloud formation in the shape of an eye.

Job 42:5 - "In hearsay I have heard about you, But now my own eye does see you."

A Faithful Witness in the Skies

Since I read the article in the 7/15/07 Watchtower, p. 32, I have never looked at the moon in the same way!

Psalms 89:36,37

His seed itself will prove to be even to time indefinate,
And his throne as the sun in front of me.

As the moon it will be firmly established for time indefinate,
And as a faithful witness in the skies.
