In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.

Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective

Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!

Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.

Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to
frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

September Theme - Food!

O.k. all you foodies, this is your month.  I know that there will be no shortage of subjects to photograph.  Don't forget -- think creatively!  I am sure it will be a mouth-watering month!

There are still 2 1/2 days left in August for any "Old House" photos.

It was bound to happen. A tie!

Looks like were are tied with respect to our theme for September.  "Changing Seasons" and "Food" each received a big three votes.  Looks like we will need a tie breaker.  I will do it the old fashioned way.  I will flip a coin.  You will have to trust me on this one.

Heads - "Changing Seasons", Tails - "Food".  Here goes.....Flipping now.......TAILS!  Looks like "Food" wins.  More later........

Old Houses in Southampton

Two of the older homes in Southampton.  Taken as we were driving on Main Street just outside of the town.  Please note that they were not taken in August of '81!  They were taken with the Hipsamatic App on my iPhone.  It replicates old black & white film.

Our Father's House

This is old in two ways.  The true God has been worshiped throughout history, so God's house of worship can be considered "old".  Also, any who know this particular building, know that it is housed in an "old" theater.

The Old Mill House

This "Old House" is just that.  It was built in 1865 right after the Civil War.  It was named the "Old Mill House."  Oddly enough, today it is a MYOPC house.  I'm sure this will trigger a word or two of questioning.  The answer (and there is one) will surprise all who are curious.  By the way, the house is located in De Leon Springs State Park on Ponce De Leon Blvd., FL!

Old House of Gas

I put this one and the previous post next to each other for the benefit of my good friend (whom I will affectionately call "CC").  He returns home from Florida today, and I am sure the "word wars" will begin.  I know this will supply fuel to the fire.  I admit, this photo was taken several years ago in North Dakota.  This gas station was old then and it is even older today!

Old and Really Old!

Two photos, same country store.  The first taken in 1896.  (It is safe to say Mike didn't take that one!)  The second a recent photo.

This little old house caught my eye sitting quietly between two bigger old houses.

This Old Townhouse!

This brownstone in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan dates back to the 1800's.  It now houses a restaurant.

The Old "House"stead!

Sparrow will now try to interpolate, for Kryptonite, how this picture fits into our theme for the month.  It may be a stretch longer than the length of this rainbow, but here goes:

Dorothy said it best, "There's no place like home."  Or perhaps, the old homestead.  Or, home is where the heart is.  After being away from home for any length of time, who doesn't enjoy returning home.  There is a sense of security and comfort in being in familiar surroundings.  So when Kryptonite returned from his trip, he was greeted by this beautiful rainbow across his home town.  Welcoming him back, in a way.  And when Krypto got to his doorstep I am sure he uttered these words:  "Ah, it's good to be back in "this old house.""  O.k. maybe not those exact words, but you get the idea.

Little Red House

This house has been on 111 for as long as I can remember.  It may not be the oldest around here, but it looks it!  I always wanted to see the inside of this house because it looked like a house of character.  Now they put up a high fence around it and I fear they may be tearing it down.  They will probably put up some "whatever" that will be totally devoid of any interest or character at all!
