In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.

Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective

Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!

Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.

Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to
frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

May Theme - Flora and Fauna

Thanks for your votes!  It seems that we had a last minute voter who tipped the scales in favor of Flowers and Fauna.  In keeping with the Latin, Fauna, I thought that Flora was more appropriate than Flowers.  I confess that I thought that Flora referred to Flowers and that Fauna referred to all other things botanical.

I stand corrected.  Dictionary.com has set the record straight.  Flora refers to "the plants of a particular region or period."  Fauna refers to "the animals of a given region or period."  Who knew?  So it looks like any plant or animal life will work for the month of May.

Despite the difficult weather, everyone pulled through in April with their "Water" photos.  Those April showers will, no doubt, make for some great May photos!

P.S.  Still have one more day in April!

A Picture of a Pitcher!

Simply a lesson in the difference between "picture" and "pitcher"!!!

Don't tell my neighbor!

Always kind of thought that what I saw through my neighbors window was a fish tank.  It wasn't until I used the zoom on my camera to confirm my suspicions!  He has some very colorful fish!  Another desperate attempt at the "water" theme!

Need Your Help!

Thanks for your April contributions.  What I thought would be an easy theme for the month, proved to be a little more challenging than expected.  Considering that we live on an island AND it rained every other day in April, the photos submitted were unexpected and very creative.  Thanks for rising to the challenge.  We still have five more days before May.

Please, if you haven't voted, do so.  Currently, it looks like a three way tie.  I would rather not have to pick from a hat.  There are three days left to vote for the May theme.  Hopefully, one theme will pull ahead with your help.  Thanks!
