In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.

Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective

Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!

Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.

Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to
frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

Theme for January - Creativity

January's theme is very broad! I am not going to give any suggestions. Whatever you feel qualifies for "Creativity" is acceptable - as long as you can explain it!

T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U for all the letters this month. It did not prove to be as easy as first thought. We did receive some good shots none-the-less.

As we enter our second year, we're asking for suggestions for upcoming themes. If you have any good ideas, send them to frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Thanks.

There is still 3 more hours left in December!!!!

"A" is for Alphabet Abductor!!!!

Oh, that Sparrow had the wisdom of Solomon!  This post would have been titled "S" is for Slide, however the faithful followers are fighting over the photo!  I could follow in Solomon's footsteps and........

This would give each party their own "S"!  However, this would not tell the whole story.  Just what is the whole story?  Your guess is as good as mine!  I know there are at least two sides.  I will post the photos and you can write your own conclusion.

Can you deduce who should get bragging rights in this "S" snafu?

Subway Alphabet

The letter code used today for about two-thirds of the system dates from the opening of the Independent Subway and must have been planned from about 1930.  The original code ran from A to H only.

Perfect First Alphabet Photo!!

Just received this photo from Tom.  How appropriate that he be visiting the man at Bryant Park who makes the plaques out of photos he took.  We affectionately call Tom, CC.  Thanks for getting us started.

Theme for December - Alphabet

Just what kind of photos will represent this month's theme?  What inspired me to enter this as a theme, in the first place, was the gentleman at the Bryant Park Craft Fair who had photos of nature or architecture that represented letters of the alphabet.   He then made words from them into beautiful plaques.   When you are conscious of it, you can see letters in just about everything.  Keep that in mind this month.  Maybe by the end of the month, we can pool our photos and make something Frabjous!

November was a challenge!  Thanks for all the effort put forth!  December may present a challenge as well.  A note of caution:  Don't look for photo ops while you are driving!  Looking forward to your creativity!

A Year of Frabjous!

This evening brings to a close our first year of Frabjous Photo.  I can't believe 12 months have passed.  It truly has been a lot of fun observing how everyone sees things differently.  I want to thank each and every one of you who participated over the past year.  Thanks to Raven, Arlene, Tom, Ironman, Kyle, Kryptonite, Sue, Linda, Mike, and Sandi (with an "i").  You all made it a lot of fun. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.   Looking forward to another year!

In an Instant!

Technology is wonderful when it comes to artistic expression.  It enables you to alter a photo in an instant, when it used to take hours in the dark room.  It has allowed me to take this cool picture of the Empire State Building...

and transform it into this dramatic black and white photo....

or this cartoon-like surreal photo....

or this vintage-looking postcard photo....

The original photo and all the altered ones were done, in an instant, on my iPhone.

A note about December themes!

Was at a craft fair today and there was a gentleman who made words out of photographs he took of objects, manmade and natural, that looked like letters of the alphabet.  He then framed them and they were awesome.  Had that in mind when I selected Alphabet as one of the possible themes for next month.

Reportage is reporting or documenting an event.  Although, when I first included this in the list, I was under the impression it meant photographing someone without their knowing it.  (Please keep in mind, I would prefer not to get sued!)

Nostalgia is pretty self explanatory.  And Comfort can be whatever brings you comfort.  I hope there is a theme that is of interest to you all.  Please don't forget to vote.  Thanks for all your great support.

P. S.  If you have any suggestions for future themes, please let me know.  Thanks.

Theme for November - Technology!

As you may know, the voting was tied once again.  Got tired of flipping a coin, so I rolled the virtual dice on my phone.  Odds - Doors & Windows; Evens - Technology.  Evens it was, so Technology it is!

Thanks to all who submitted Round pictures in October.  (Even all you "just under the wire" photographers!)

Looking forward to November's Technological challenge!

Frabjous Icon!

Thanks to my sisters for my cool new camera!  It will represent Frabjous Photo.  It has a Round lense with a Round rhinestone.  I love it.
