In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.

Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective

Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!

Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.

Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to
frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

VACATION!!!!!!!

My apologies to all of our readers.  The month of August just flew.  I was away at the beginning of the month and, once home, had been trying to catch up on everything that didn't get done over the summer.  Now it is the last day of August and this is the first time I am giving attention to the blog.  Once again, my apologies!

I've taken last month's theme and made it the them for September.  Hopefully we'll all get back on track. I haven't checked the email yet, but if there are any photos that were sent in August, I will put them on the blog for September.

Travel should be a somewhat easy theme since most people have gone somewhere over the summer.  We'll dispense with the "must be taken in the same month" rule and let you submit any travel photos from this summer.

I know some of you have some great shots!

Theme for July - What Is It?

So what is it, you ask?  Yes, that's it.  What Is It?  The Theme for August.  It was a tie and I had to apply the tie breaker rule.  Odd - Macro.  Even - What Is It?  I rolled a two.

Have you ever taken a photo and someone said, "What Is It?"  I'll leave you with that thought.

Thanks for the Pet Peeves.  Sparrow sure has a lot!

Lawn Parking!

Nothing makes a neighborhood look trashier than people parking their cars on the lawn!!!

No Name!!

It makes me crazy when people do not put their name in their books.  This feeling was heightened this past weekend at the District Convention where I worked in the Lost and Found department.  Many were the books with no names.  Even some brand new Bibles!

Pepperoni Pizza!

No one ever wants to order pizza with pepperoni on it.  They'd rather have sausage, meatballs, mushrooms, etc.  They will compromise and order a pie with half pepperoni for me.  It never fails, though, all those people who didn't want pepperoni, always eat the pepperoni!  What's up with that?!?!?

Theme for June - Pet Peeves!

Because there were only two votes, it looks like we're stuck with the challanging theme of "Pet Peeves!"
It will be interesting to see if any of your "Pet Peeves" translate into a photograph.  I've got two ideas in mind, I'll do my best to photograph them.

There is one more day for the EASY theme of "Creation!"  If you haven't submitted a photo, tomorrow would be a good time.  Next month will be a lot harder!

Thanks to everyone for their submissions!

The Finer Things!

What a marvel the silk worm is!! The silk threads produced by this worm can be spun into something considered to be a luxury by most.  Here are some examples of the yarns produced from these silken threads.

Robin's Egg Blue

Jehovah made everything beautiful, even eggs!  One of the prettiest is the Robin's egg.

Genesis 1:21

And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind.

To know me is to know my passion.  Birding.  This Mourning Dove has taken up residence at the Kingdom Hall. We affectionately named her Abigail.  Of late, she has been faithfully sitting on her eggs.

We can't get much broader then Creation.  That truly encompasses the whole world around us.  Everywhere we look we see Jehovah's handiwork.  Find something that is of interest to you and snap away!

This is definately one of my, Sparrow's, favorites.  The sky is an ever-changing painting.  Sometimes it really leans toward the dramatic, as in this photos taken by Tom.

Favorite Shots from Birding Foray!

Had the best day birding ever yesterday.  Here are some shots.  More on Birds of a Feather.

A Warm Breeze!

One of my favorite things to enjoy in the summer is a warm breeze.  Even though it is not summer yet, yesterday's temperatures in the 80's afforded me the opportunity to enjoy it early.  Since I couldn't photograph the breeze, I took a photo of the breeze creating ripples on a pond.

It was a gorgeous day!
