In search of creative growth, this blog was designed to encourage the personal betterment of those who enjoy photography as a hobby. Each month's new theme can encourage us to see the world in a different way. We all view things differently. The diversity we enjoy can fuel the creative spirit. It is hoped that we can all glean something from one another.
Frabjous - (frab-juhs) - adjective
Defined as wonderful, superb, elegant or delicious. Coined by Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking Glass; perhaps meant to suggest fabulous or joyous. Do we not feel wonderful or joyous about something we ourselves have created? Hopefully this blog will encourage us to create something frabjous!
Here is how it works. Each month will have a new theme to stimulate creative thinking. We invite people to make suggestions for upcoming themes. The month prior, you can vote for the theme you would like out of four listed. The rules are simple. No rules really. The idea is to get us to think and be mindful of the theme for the month. Take photos that relate to that theme. (However, if you have a really great shot that was taken at another time, use it.) No photo police here. Any camera will do. Even phones with cameras are pretty good these days and they are always handy. Also, if a filter or cropping enhances your photo, go for it. The digital age has given us flexibility that we should take advantage of. One to five photos can be submitted for the blog. Interpretation is up to each individual. We welcome comments.
Theme suggestions and photos can be submitted to frabjousphoto@optonline.net. Submissions must be made no later than the last day of each month. Photos will be posted as received throughout the month. Happy snapping!

Unexpected Cell Phone Use!
Sparrow says, "Keep in mind, the unexpected cell phone use is not the one taking the video, but the one who snapped this picture!"

August Theme - This Old House! con't.
Sorry for the thunderstorm interruption.
As I was saying, "house" has more than one meaning. Our #1 disgruntled follower may take exception to this, but he gave a great example of what would have made a perfect entry for August, "the house that Ruth built"!! (See comment #1 from the previous post) And we all remember Bob Vila's "This Old House" show which focused on renovation. So however you interpret "house" it's o.k. because you are the interpreter.
July was a challenge but we had some "interesting" entries. Thanks to all. Hope you enjoyed it. There are still eight hours to post the "Unexpected:"
Now I must go houseclean this old house that I live in! Can't wait to see your entries for August!

August Theme - This Old House!
When I was a little girl, we used to drive to Florida every winter. My dad and I would play a game that we called "Wrecked Down House". Whoever saw a wrecked down house first and called it, got a point. Perhaps that was my inspiration for this theme. But we live on Long Island. And while there may not be an abundance of wrecked down houses, there are plenty of older homes. However, according Merriam Webster Dictionary, there are many other definitions of "house".
1) an animal shelter as in den or nest.
2) a building in which something is stored.
3) a household
4) a residence for a religious community or for students.
5) a legislative body.
6) a place of business or entertainment.
7) a business organization.
8) the audience in a theater or concert hall.
These definitions may help you to think outside the box.
I am trying to finish this post so that I can turn off the computer, because a storm is coming! I can hear the thunder... It's getting windy!!! More later.....

Unexpected Technical Difficulties!
Enjoyed a nice afternoon at the beach today. Headed back to the car upon hearing distant thunder. Did not expect that as the sky darkened and the thunder got louder, that we would have this technical difficulty. Plus, three out of four of us had meetings to get to. No time for this unexpected delay!
Had to break out the tool box to try to get our beach unbrella to close. Mission: Unsuccessful!

Area "51"
Came across this curious pod out in service today. It looks like it belongs in Area 51.

UFO!
Really! Thought I was taking a picture of a lone balloon floating through the air (while waiting for Arlene to make me a slush). When I loaded the picture onto the computer, I was surprised to see that it was not a balloon. I don't know what it is. Does anyone?

Homeless in Deer Park
Perhaps we expect to see the homeless in urban America, but it is still hard to get used to seeing the homeless in the suburbs. This was taken at the Deer Park train station.

"About-Face"
I didn't expect what I saw while cutting through a park to get to the subway. Was walking briskly when out of the corner of my eye saw this and made an "about-face."

Unexpected Angle
Took a picture of this Mockingbird as he looked down off the peak of my roof. The angle is amusing because it looks like his eyes are below his beak.

Serendipitous Shot
O.k. I admit it. This is not a photo from this month! It is perfect to start the month off with though. While flying in to LaGuardia, I quick took this snapshot of lower Manhattan. It wasn't until I loaded the photo on my computer that I realized I had gotten a nice shot of Brooklyn Bethel between the buildings! Click on it to get a better look!
